Ryo's Story!
Ryo's Story! is a comic written by Chris McFeely of Digipedia and John Gatehouse, illustrated by Artful Doodlers for the 43rd issue of Fox Kids' "Wickid" magazine in September 2003. The magazine regularly featured few pages long Digimon stories and Ryo's Story! was based on Ryo's backstory from the WonderSwan games. It revealed Ryo's background to wider audiences that never played/had access to the WonderSwan games.
The story takes place in the middle of a fight between Cyberdramon and Megadramon before Digimon Tamers' Ryo met Takato and the others. Ryo and Cyberdramon are trying to save a Digimon village from the murderous Megadramon, when the latter causes an avalanche that buries Ryo and Cyberdramon. Cyberdramon is knocked out by it and Ryo, tired of all the fighting and afraid, has a break down.
He starts remembering how everything began and how he came from a different dimension/universe (that of Digimon Adventure). There he helped Agumon to rescue Adventure 01 Digidestined and defeat Millenniummon (Anode/Cathode Tamer), and after Millenniummon came back he and Ken worked together to defeat him again (Tag Tamers), however MoonMillenniummon tricked him by opening a portal and sending him to the ancient past of the Digiworld, where he met ENIAC (Brave Tamer). To defeat Millenniummon in his final form, ZeedMillenniummon, Monodramon forced a DNA evolution with him and Cyberdramon was born. It's the ZeedMillenniummon part of him that makes him so hard to control. Ryo and Cyberdramon ended up in an alternate universe (that of Digimon Tamers), where Digimon was mainly a card game.
Ryo, still stuck under the rocks, feels like giving up but Cyberdramon wakes up and tells him to never give up when he's got him on his side. They then fly away to find Megadramon. They stop him from burning down a Mushroommon village. Mushroommon are grateful and invite them to a feast, where Ryo feels like he finally found a purpose for their endless fights.
The comic is still accessable on Digipedia with some more inside information on how the story was developed.
