DIGIROYALTY, About the Site
This website was born in December 2008, around 5 years too late to be a part of the golden period of Digimon shrines. I used to have several websites in 2002-2004 (at least two of them Digimon related) but I was still in elementary school back then and couldn't make a proper website in a foreign language. I remember making one in German (on Rika, Juri and Suzie) and actually finding an affiliate Digimon page for it but losing it as soon as they saw through my then terrible German skills, oops.
I was already in college in 2008 and over my "too cool for all my childhood related loves" phase in high school (although I did play Yu-Gi-Oh TCG until 2007) when I decided it was time for my very own website domain and a shrine dedicated to my favourite Digimon pairing. Let's say my English has improved.
The name for it just came to me somehow and wasn't copied from the other DigiRoyalty Rika&Ryo shrine that existed back in 2002. I guess we both made the connection having the Digimon queen and king as our theme of interest.
I don't remember when Rika and Ryo became my favourite pairing but it must had been as soon as Ryo appeared in Digimon Tamers. I instantly liked him for some reason (my shallow soft spot for tanned characters might be one of the reasons) and the dynamics of his relationship with Rika. I was quite obsessed with them for a while, hating on other possible pairings (especially Rika+Takato) but I've khem-grown-khem to just appreciate their relationship, romantic or not (I still love to read and write romantic fanfiction though).
So DigiRoyalty was online until around 2015 when we lost our domain due to not paying for it and over the years I thought about bringing it back and just leaving it online for all eternity (it is kind of weird to imagine updating the site in my 40's but then I'm in my 30's now and I'm doing it, although the thought of it probably felt weird ten years ago) because I feel so bad for all the websites that just vanished forever (some of them not even attainable on the Wayback Machine). Anywho, the virus happened in 2020 and Digimon Adventure 20th anniversary was coming up in August and it felt like the perfect opportunity to bring DigiRoyalty back to life. I went for a simple new layout that I could make by myself using html. It only looks like it was supposed to on my own computer - it's not broken or anything in other resolutions, it just doesn't really look that nice. The content of the page took a while to write since most of the info on the old page was from my more obsessed times and needed to be almost completely rewritten (I used to have a page called "Evidence killer" where I would disregard all the "evidence" of other possible Rika/Ryo pairings). Thankfully I still had access to the files because I had burnt them on CDs - it's something me and my sister regularily did in 2010's for security reasons. *thumbs up* In order to rewrite the content of the page I had to rewatch/reread everything Digimon Tamers related and I'm still in the process of it. It's been fun though and I'm glad to leave such a legacy behind, even though it's probably only me reading these pages.
