KITAKYUSHU, Ryo's Digimon Tamers' Hometown

Hometown: KitaKyushu (北九州 / Kitakyuushuu)

Location: south island of Japan, prefecture Fukuoka (north), region Kyushu

KitaKyushu (literally translated to "North" Kyushu) is where Ryo lives in Digimon Tamers. He mentions he's from Fukuoka in one of the episodes and we find out he's actually from the northernmost city of the island in [Drama CD] Digimon Original Story Special ~with~ (read it here). Ryo is visiting Tokyo to go to a card tournament and meets with the rest of the Tamers there. Henry (Jenrya) asks him when he is returning home to North Kyushu (KitaKyushu).

JIAN: Are you heading back to North Kyushuu now?
RYO: Yeah. That's why I wanted to see all of you before I left.

We don't really know anything else about Ryo's life there. We know that he has a father, is pretty famous (remember the episode when reporters tried to interview him after he returned from the DigiWorld?), that his father drives a blue car and that Ryo occasionly comes to Tokyo to play Digimon card-game on tournaments (and that he wins the too - Kazu (Hirokazu) congratulates him on his victory in the Drama CD mentioned earlier).

Another thing confirming that he's actually living in Kyushu is the fact that he speaks in Hakata dialect when he's with his father (it's a local dialect for Kyushu). This detail was mentioned in the Digimon Series Memorial Book: Digimon Animation Chronicle under the introduction of his father, who came from Kyushu to pick Ryo up after he had returned to the real world.

That's all I know about TAMERS Ryo's home but there are a few things from the WONDERSWAN games too.

RYO'S WONDERSWAN GAMES HOMETOWN

Ryo's hometown is also shown in the first WonderSwan game Anode/Cathode Tamer (which takes place in december 1999). We don't know exactly where WonderSwan's Ryo is from but we get some info about his life and some details that I think indicate that he's actually from Tokyo.

He lives in a two-story house with his parents (father AND mother, whose faces we can't see in the game). It doesn't look like he has any siblings or pets and for Christmas of 1999 his father promised him a new computer.

It seems like Ryo's parents are well off - not just because of the new computer, they also live in this big house and his father seems to be some kind of a businessman (he's shown wearing a suit) and his mother could be a housewife (wearing an apron). The Anode/Cathode Tamer starts by showing us a city in the evening (you can see a mountain in the back og the first one, could it be Fuji ..?) and then we get to see Ryo in his father's study room, which is full of books. Ryo is chatting on his father's laptop (wow ... I got my first computer in '99 and it was a giant PC) with people who're talking about the incident that happened in their town in August. This is what they're saying:

TAKE: Hello! Chatting on New Year's Eve is cool, isn't it? Oh yeah, do you remember about the little incident in the summer?
MAA-KUN: Yeah, I remember! When we had all those earthquakes, right? The town got really wrecked didn't it ...
UK: Yeah, I know! But that was really an earthquake? My dad said it was a terrorist attack!
TAKE: Yeah, I know. Some people even said that it was because of the Digimon!
UK: Really? Are you kidding me?
MAA-KUN: And, and, and, who said that? Are they nuts or something?
TAKE: What was their name again ... I think it was Taichi or something like that.

We don't know who these people are but it's clear they're talking about Digimon destroying a part of Tokyo. I think they're talking about the time when Tai (Taichi) comes back to the real world alone. He realizes the time goes by faster in the DigiWorld and that it's still the first day of August 1999 in the real world - the day they went to summer camp and ended up in the DigiWorld (Digimon Adventure, episode 21). Next time the Digidestined and their Digimon return to the real world, Tokyo is practically a war zone with Myotismon terrorizing its residents. There's no doubt it is the Digimon who are destroying the city, whereas in episode 21 Tai is the only one who can actually see them.

Anyhow, one of the people in the chatroom says "the town" was a mess afterwards and that someone named "Taichi" claims it was the Digimon. I assume they're all from the same town, a part of Tokyo, since they all know the story and might even know there's a kid there named Taichi.

So while chatting, Ryo's computer suddenly goes blank and Agumon appears on it. Then a Digivice is sent to Ryo and he's transported to the DigiWorld where he meets with Agumon to help him save Tai and the others. In the end he comes back home and his parents (at least half of them) are shown for the first time. (Thanks to yesterday for the two pics! I still didn't finish the game but when I do (if I do ~~), I'll make my own screenshots!)
